Defy Theory
Defy Theory is a rock band from Johannesburg, South Africa. The band was formed in 2013 and consists of members Gareth Cairncross, Franna Nel, Daniel Bronkhorst, Renier Lillie and Justin Visagie. The band’s sound cannot be placed under one genre but rather experiments with a mix of alternative, hard rock, rap rock and dance music. Drawing influence from bands such as Muse, Gangs of Ballet, Linkin Park and Alter Bridge among others.

Liaan Horton teamed up with Armando Santos and Marius Cronje to interpret and create aural art based on songs written by Liaan Horton. This union proved to be so successful that “The Color Blew” soon started writing fresh alternative rock songs as a unit.

OTN are all seasoned musicians with industry experience ranging well over 15 years respectively and all schooled in music on one way or another. Their collective influences include Dr Dre’, Metallica, The Dave Matthews Band, Slipknot, John Coltrane, OutKast, The Police and Tool, the list continues but gives an indication of how the end result is achieved firmly grounded in rock but with hints of their individual influences.
